Pigmentation

Pigmentation refers to the coloring of your skin. It is caused by the amount and distribution of melanin, the pigment produced by skin cells.

When melanin production is uneven or excessive, it leads to hyperpigmentation — dark spots or patches on the skin.

Common Types of Pigmentation:

1. Melasma: Brown or grayish patches, usually on the cheeks, forehead, or upper lip. Triggered by hormones, sun exposure, or pregnancy.
2. Freckles: Small brown spots, often genetic and worsened by sun.
3. Sunspots (Age spots): Caused by prolonged UV exposure and aging.
4. Post-Acne Marks: Dark spots left behind after pimples heal.
5. PIH (Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation): Discoloration after skin inflammation, injury, or aggressive treatments.
